OM Logistics reduces annual maintenance costs with Oracle
OM Logistics cuts data center operating costs and expedites maintenance time by 90% with Oracle Database Appliance.
“Oracle Database simply runs well on Oracle Database Appliance. There are no performance or downtime issues and our users are happy. We can now create reports 50% faster and cut annual maintenance costs by US$39,000 compared to the previous HP hardware.”
Business challenges
Previously, OM Logistics used multiple vendors for its IT environment, including Oracle Database, HP servers and storage system, Linux operating system, and MPLS-VPN network. However, the yearly running cost was high and became unsustainable for the business. OM Logistics wanted to consolidate its HP hardware and provide a high-performance and cost-effective private cloud solution across 500 locations.
The company needed to reduce annual maintenance costs for the private cloud by using a single vendor for hardware and software solutions instead of multiple vendors.
Also, it hoped to improve the bottom line for the logistics business by allowing 2,500 internal users to quickly generate reports, such as outstanding debt, and follow up with customers in a timely manner.
Why OM Logistics chose Oracle
Results
With assistance from Oracle and Oracle Partner Sonata Software, OM Logistics installed and configured Oracle Database Appliance based on its business requirements. It also provided training to approximately 2,500 internal users. The new platform went live smoothly in just two and a half months. OM Logistics was also one of the first Indian companies to adopt Oracle Database Appliance X7-2 High Availability.
“The Oracle team was professional and knowledgeable in answering our inquiries and recommending the right solution to us,” Singh said.
Om also lowered the data center operating costs by consolidating eight servers into Oracle Database Appliance and utilizing less human labor, electricity, and floor space for the six virtual machines in a private cloud.
The company was able to cut annual maintenance costs by US$39,000 by purchasing Oracle Database Appliance at a significantly lower price and paying 90% less running costs than the legacy HP hardware.
OM Logistics halved the time to create daily reports and assisted the business to recover outstanding debt faster by rapidly processing over 1,000 queries and 250 reports without downtime compared to 40% downtime in the legacy HP environment.
It also saved 90% of the time spent on maintenance, upgrading, and patching by using a single database appliance with pre-engineered software, compute, storage, and network resources.
Additionally, running Oracle Database on a fully redundant Oracle Database Appliance supported continuous logistics operations and ensured high availability, which provided real-time B2B logistics service information to 5,000 trucks on the road every day.
The company's users could easily and accurately plan their days by loading data 60% faster with Oracle Database Appliance and delivering outstanding debt reports to users every morning, without delay.
Finally, OM Logistics gained a highly scalable and secure Oracle Database Appliance to support the logistics business and warehouse management across 500 locations.

“Sonata Software was the bridge between Oracle and our team. They worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition to Oracle Database Appliance and minimize disruption to our critical logistics operations,” Singh said.
