Blurams adopts OCI as a catalyst for global expansion, lowering TCO by 30%
The provider of innovative smart home security cameras uses OCI to enhance security and manage the compliance complexities of global markets.
“The smart home camera industry requires robust cloud computing capabilities to meet customer requirements. We can now offer our customers more cost-effective choices by leveraging OCI.”
Business challenges
The rapid adoption of smart home technologies has spurred a huge demand for intelligent home security cameras globally. However, video systems originally designed for B2B use don’t always perform ideally in consumer scenarios.
Blurams is a global smart video cloud platform service and Internet of Things (IoT) provider. The company produces high-quality indoor and outdoor security cameras and smart video doorbells with free lifetime cloud storage.
As the company expanded, the number of users, as well as cloud and data consumption, rose significantly. As Blurams worked to meet various country-specific compliance regulations, its computing costs climbed, threatening to derail its rapid growth.
To strengthen data and network security while saving costs, Blurams looked for a more robust cloud platform that would meet its technical and business requirements.
Thanks to the excellent performance, flexible configuration, and end-to-end security of Oracle Cloud technology, Blurams achieved high-quality growth in our overseas businesses.
Why Blurams chose Oracle
Based on the results of a proof of concept, conducted with the help of the Hong Kong-based Oracle support team, Blurams selected Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for its superior performance, security, reliability, data compliance, and low total cost of ownership.
Because Blurams processes video streams based on transfer deposit mode, the company needed a large number of low-cost compute instances with strong video stream processing capabilities and high network throughput. OCI's compute shape A1.Flex, based on Ampere ARM processors, met Blurams’ requirements perfectly. During the testing, OCI A1.Flex performed much better than a similar shape from AWS.
Meeting the security and compliance requirements of North America was crucial for Blurams to expand its business there. The success stories of OCI gave Blurams confidence that it would remain compliant in the United States and Canada.
Cost was always an important consideration also. After a few rounds of evaluations, Blurams found that OCI would effectively reduce overall TCO and increase profitability.
Results
Oracle’s support team assisted Blurams’ technical staff in optimizing its application architecture on OCI. In the proof of concept, OCI delivered superior performance compared to other cloud providers and offered more flexible configuration options, such as the allocation of memory and CPU resources in computing environments.
OCI helped support the company’s global expansion, including total cost of ownership that is as much as 30% lower than what Blurams experienced with other cloud providers. The money saved will help the company devote more resources for R&D and business expansion.
Using Oracle Security, Identity, and Compliance, Blurams strengthened its ability to fight malicious attacks and cyberthreats. This was especially important because cybersecurity and data security are the top concerns for customers.
By taking advantage of Oracle’s 40-plus data centers around the world, Blurams can now match its clients’ requirements more easily while complying with regulatory and data restrictions across all its markets.
