EHS implements empirical antibiotics program with Oracle Health EHR
Leading UAE healthcare operator creates Oracle Health Millennium Platform program to promote patient safety and reduce costs in hospital admissions.
“Through the Oracle Health antibiotic stewardship program, we safeguard our present by preserving the effectiveness of antibiotics, helping to ensure a healthier future for our generations.”
Emirates Health Services (EHS) is the leading healthcare operator catering to the northern United Arab Emirates. Its empirical antibiotic policy guides safe medication practice for hospitalized patients, but the baseline duration of empirical antibiotic prescription was, on average, 4.4 days. EHS implemented a guided, protocol-embedded program through its Oracle EHR, branded as Wareed, which helped to ensure that the prescription of empirical antibiotics was reviewed at 72 hours through EHR-generated rules and alerts. This reduced empirical antibiotics consumption by more than 5X, with an average prescription length of 2.8 days and antibiotic consumption cost reductions of AED 13,171,322 in one year.1
